Summer on the farm is nearly here… and honestly, we can’t wait

There’s just something about summer arriving on the farm that makes everything feel lighter. The evenings stretch out, the fields turn that deep green again, and suddenly life feels like it slows down a little in the best possible way.

This is one of our favourite times of year at Summerhill Farm Stays.

The farm gets busier as silage season starts, tractors work late into the evening, swallows dart around the sheds, and there’s always something happening outside the lodge windows. You can sit in the hot tub with a glass of wine and watch real farm life carrying on around you, which somehow never gets old.

Mornings here are slow and quiet. Coffee outside wrapped in a blanket, fresh countryside air, sheep grazing nearby and absolutely nowhere you need to be.

And then the evenings arrive. Golden sunsets over the fields, BBQs on the decking, long chats outside, stargazing once it gets dark enough. It’s the kind of place where you accidentally spend most of your time outdoors without even meaning to.

One of the nicest things about staying here in summer is that you feel completely tucked away in the countryside, while still being close to so many lovely places to explore.

We’re surrounded by some of the best bits of Dumfries and Galloway. Quiet beaches, forest walks, little honesty sheds, farm shops, cafés and scenic drives where you’ll probably stop every five minutes because the view keeps changing.

Galloway Forest Park is especially beautiful in the summer months, whether you’re walking, cycling or just driving through with the windows down. And if you fancy something a bit more active, Galloway Activity Centre is nearby for paddleboarding, kayaking and outdoor adventures.

There’s also something really special about this area in summer because it never feels too busy or overcrowded. You can still find quiet beaches, peaceful walks and little hidden spots that feel like you’ve stumbled across them yourself.

Because that’s really what summer here is about.

Slower mornings. Fresh air. Long evenings. Countryside quiet. And giving yourself permission to properly relax for a few days ☀️
