8 things you’ll love about doing a farm stay

Home » News » 8 things you’ll love about doing a farm stay

There’s something about a farm stay that just slows life down in the best possible way. The muddy boots by the door, the fresh country air, the sheep outside your window, the slower mornings with coffee in hand. It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a chance to properly switch off.

Here’s 8 things we think you’ll love about staying at Summerhill Farm.

1. Waking up to real countryside views

Not car parks. Not busy roads. Just rolling fields, sheep grazing nearby and skies that seem to go on forever.

There’s something very special about opening the curtains in the morning and seeing the farm waking up around you. Depending on the season, you might spot lambs bouncing around the fields, tractors heading out to work or the morning mist sitting low across the hills.

It’s the kind of view that makes you instantly relax.

2. Experiencing real farm life

This isn’t a themed farm experience put on for tourists. This is our actual working family farm and every day looks a little different.

You’ll see farmer Nick out feeding sheep, moving livestock or heading off across the fields on the quad bike. In summer, the silage season brings huge machinery and long busy days. In spring, lambing takes over the farm and there’s nothing quite like seeing newborn lambs in the fields beside the lodges.

Farm life is muddy, busy, unpredictable and completely magical all at once.

3. The peace and quiet

One thing guests always mention is how quiet it is here.

No traffic. No crowds. No constant background noise.

Just birdsong, the occasional baa from the sheep and maybe the sound of rain on the lodge roof while you’re curled up inside.

It’s the sort of quiet you don’t realise you’ve been craving until you arrive.

4. The little touches that make your stay special

We love going the extra mile to make stays feel thoughtful and cosy.

From welcome treats waiting for you when you arrive, to breakfast baskets filled with local produce, stargazing kits, conversation cards and all the little extras that turn a weekend away into something memorable.

We want people to arrive, breathe out and instantly feel at home.

5. Stargazing from the hot tub

One of the best things about being out in the countryside is the dark skies.

On a clear night, the stars here are incredible. There’s nothing better than sitting in the hot tub wrapped in the warmth while looking up at a sky full of stars.

It’s one of those simple moments that ends up becoming the highlight of the trip.

6. Being close to beaches, forests and adventures

While the farm feels wonderfully tucked away, there’s loads to explore nearby.

Beautiful beaches, coastal walks, forest trails, lochs, cute little towns and some brilliant food spots are all within easy reach. Whether you want a full day of exploring or a slow wander followed by coffee and cake somewhere local, there’s plenty nearby to fill your days.

And then at the end of it all, you get to come back to the peace of the farm.

7. Cosy nights in

Honestly, some of the best moments happen when you do absolutely nothing.

Slow mornings in your pyjamas. Watching the rain through the windows. Movie nights on the sofa. Cooking dinner while the countryside goes dark outside.

The lodges are designed to feel cosy, luxurious and calming all year round, whether you’re here in the middle of summer or on a wild winter weekend escape.

8. Leaving feeling properly refreshed

A farm stay just feels different.

Maybe it’s the fresh air. Maybe it’s the slower pace. Maybe it’s being surrounded by nature for a few days. But people often leave saying they feel calmer than they have in months.

And honestly, that’s exactly what we hoped Summerhill Farm would be.

A place to switch off, slow down and enjoy the simple things again.
