What is our promise?
A little breathing space when it’s needed most, when life gets heavy.
Whether it’s a chance to catch your breath, make precious memories with the people you love, celebrate the life of someone you’ve lost, or simply find a little peace during one of life’s most difficult chapters, we hope Summerhill can offer a place to do just that.
The Summerhill Promise is our commitment to gift at least two complimentary two-night stays each year to people who could really benefit from a little breathing space. As Summerhill grows, we hope to offer even more whenever we’re able. Every stay is gifted around our availability, and we’ll always do what we can, when we can.
We know we can’t help everyone, but we hope that, for a handful of people each year, Summerhill can offer a place to rest, reconnect and make memories that matter.
What is The Summerhill Promise?
The Summerhill Promise is for people facing some of life’s most difficult chapters. That may be someone going through treatment, caring for a loved one with an illness, living with or caring for someone with dementia, spending precious time together after the loss of a loved one, recovering after a stay in neonatal care, navigating postnatal depression, or simply facing circumstances that have left life feeling incredibly heavy.
We know every story is different, so if your situation isn’t listed above but you feel a stay at Summerhill could make a positive difference, we’d still love to hear from you.
Why are we doing it?
Between us, we’ve experienced the impact that serious illness can have on a family, and we know just how precious time together becomes during life’s most difficult moments.
Life is incredibly short.
Since opening Summerhill, we’ve seen first-hand the difference a few peaceful days can make. Guests often tell us how relaxed they feel here, how they’ve switched off, slept better, reconnected with loved ones and left feeling refreshed.
We know we can’t change anyone’s circumstances, but we hope we can offer a little breathing space when it’s needed most.
If The Summerhill Promise can help someone make special memories, catch their breath or simply find a moment of peace, then it will have been worth it.
How does it work?
If you feel you, or someone you know, could benefit from a stay through The Summerhill Promise, we’d love to hear from you.
You can either apply for yourself or nominate someone else.
Simply email hello@summerhillfarmstays.co.uk and include:
- Your name and contact details.
- Whether you’re applying for yourself or nominating someone else.
- A little about your circumstances.
- Why you feel a stay at Summerhill would make a difference.
Please don’t worry about writing the “perfect” application. We’re not looking for the best writer, we simply want to understand your story.
Every application will be read personally, with care, kindness and complete confidentiality.
Applications will only be accepted by email and will not be considered through social media comments or direct messages.
If you’re nominating someone, we kindly ask that you speak to them first and make sure they’re happy for you to submit an application on their behalf.
While your intentions may come from a place of kindness, some people may not feel comfortable sharing their story, accepting a complimentary stay, or may simply not be in a position to get away at that time.
We never want to add to someone’s stress, so please check they’re happy to be nominated before submitting an application.

The Summerhill Promise stays are offered throughout the year on selected dates chosen by Summerhill Farm Stays.

15th – 17th September 2026 – The Byre (not pet friendly), application deadline 23rd August.

Important information
- Complimentary stays are for two nights.
- Stays are offered entirely at the discretion of Summerhill Farm Stays.
- Submitting an application or nomination does not guarantee a stay.
- Complimentary stays have no cash value and cannot be exchanged or transferred.
- Stays are allocated on dates selected by Summerhill Farm Stays and are subject to availability.
- Applications are accepted by email only and will not be considered through social media.
- By submitting an application, you confirm that the information you have provided is true to the best of your knowledge.
- We will treat every application with complete confidentiality and will never share your story, photographs or details of your stay on social media.
Accessibility
Our lodges are located on a working farm and are accessed via a small flight of steps. Unfortunately, they are not wheelchair accessible.
The accommodation has not been designed as accessible accommodation. The internal spaces are standard width, and the bathroom has not been adapted for wheelchair users. The surrounding ground can also be uneven in places.
We know this means we won’t be able to welcome everyone through The Summerhill Promise, and we’re genuinely sorry for that. We want to be as open as possible so applicants can decide whether the accommodation is suitable before applying.ect messages.
