About Summerhill Farm Stays

We’re Nick, Holly, Tilly and Archie. In 2020, we made the decision to move back to Scotland to support Nick’s dad on the family farm. It was a natural step for Nick to start learning the ropes and preparing to take over the reins.

That journey led us to Summerhill Farm in 2021. We fell in love with the land and its potential and knew it was the perfect place to establish our own farming venture while continuing to support the family farm.

On The Farm

Today, Summerhill is home to a thriving flock of 450 easy care sheep, 75 cattle, 6 chickens and our beloved dogs and cats. While Nick is passionate about farming and does the day to day on the farm, Holly brings a fresh perspective. With no farming background, she works part-time as a Marketing Manager while embracing the farm life wholeheartedly.

A Tranquil Escape

When we created Summerhill Farm Stays, we had a clear vision of what we wanted it to be. We loved where we lived and knew this beautiful corner of Dumfries & Galloway deserved accommodation that reflected it.

At the time, luxury, contemporary farm stays were still a rare find in our region. In fact, we were even asked whether there would be demand for something like this. We believed there would be.

We wanted to create something different. Stylish, thoughtfully designed self-catering lodges that felt luxurious without losing the connection to the countryside. A place where you could wake up to the sound of sheep in the fields, spend the evening in a hot tub under some of the darkest skies in the UK, and enjoy the peace and quiet of life on a working farm.

Every decision, from the design of the lodges to the little touches you’ll find during your stay, has been made with one goal in mind: creating somewhere we’d want to escape to ourselves.

We hope you’ll leave feeling refreshed, reconnected and already planning your next visit.
